Mentawai cultural life is not a performance — it is an ongoing, living tradition. Ceremonies, harvest festivals, healing rituals, and village gatherings happen throughout the year in Siberut Island's community forests. This page lists confirmed events in 2026 where Pulau Asli Tour guests can be present with community approval.
All events listed here are real community ceremonies — not tourist performances. Access is only possible through Andrian, who holds both government-level and tribal chief (kepala suku) level permits for these villages.

10 August 2026 · Desa Matotonan, Siberut Island
Punen Laggai is one of the most sacred ceremonies in Mentawai culture — a village-wide gathering at the Uma longhouse where the Sikerei shaman leads rituals to give thanks for the harvest, bless the community's food sources, and maintain harmony with the ancestral world. Desa Matotonan is one of the most traditional villages in Siberut Island, located deep in the community forest directly bordering the 403,000-hectare Siberut National Park.
During the ceremony: the Sikerei performs ritual prayers and offerings, the community prepares communal food including sago and forest-sourced ingredients, and traditional Turuk Laggai dance may be performed. Guests are welcomed as respectful observers — not as a tourist show, but as guests within a living community event.
How to attend:
Depart: Saturday 8 August 2026 (Muaro Padang, 07:00)
Package: 3-Day Discovery — on island Sat 8, Sun 9, Mon 10 Aug (ceremony day), return Tue 11 Aug

21–23 October 2026 · Desa Maileppet, Siberut Island
Desa Maileppet holds a full 3-day Punen Laggai — the longest and most elaborate form of the ceremony accessible through Pulau Asli Tour. Over three days, the Sikerei leads multiple ritual sessions at the Uma longhouse, the community prepares traditional feast food, and the village comes alive with ancestral song, bark cloth making, and communal spirit.
This is an exceptionally rare experience for outsiders. Andrian personally coordinates community introductions, village protocol, and all permits before arrival. Every guest is briefed on ceremony etiquette.
